Taking Chances

Saturday, May 26, 2012 0 comments

Well, after much urging from many biased encouraging family members and friends, I've decided that this summer I'm going to take the plunge and start saying, "yes" when non-family-members ask me to do baby/childhood photography. I unexpectedly have some extra days off from teaching each week and plan to fill them up with Grammy Pics sessions.
Yikes! While I think it will be great fun, it's also a little bit intimidating. I will be charging for these sessions, but as I still feel that I'm at the beginning of the learning curve, I will be setting prices that are roughly a 1/3 of what I see out there in baby photography.

If you know anyone who would like maternity, birth, newborn or baby/toddler portraits done on location or in their home, please send them to my new website or Facebook fan page:

Grammy Pics for you!

Even if you don't know of anyone off-hand, if you have a moment to "like" my FB page and help me spread the word I'd be most grateful!

I guess this means you'll be seeing a lot more variety this summer in my blog posts. Just in case you were tired of the same 7 faces...

Nevermind. Not possible!

Sisters, Sisters...

Monday, May 21, 2012 4 comments
When I did the little girls' monthly pictures a couple weeks ago, I also did some Mother's Day sisters pictures of Amara and Lily in their matching red poppies outfits. I LOVE these outfits (everything's better in red, remember?). I kinda like the people in them too. ;)

Photographing toddler siblings isn't something I've acquired quite the skills for yet, so I don't have a picture yet of the girls that I love. But, I did think several of these turned out pretty cute. The one at the end is the most "sistery" one, though.

Lily-bug

My last Grammy Pics session was a double. Autumn and Lily traded off clothing changes and eating while I just kept shooting.
Continuing with the red and white polka-dot theme, Lily showed off for her 8 month portraits.

SUCH an engaging and charming child, that Lily! She makes it easy to get really beautiful pictures. Even though she was thoroughly overdue for a nap, she pulled out some smiles for me.

I find the hardest part of taking Lily's monthly "Grammy Pics" is making myself delete enough to get down to a reasonable amount of editing. Between Autumn and Lily I had 900 photos to sort through!

Enjoy Miss Sunshine and Smiles...

Polka-Dots & Polish

Since the girls' monthly Grammy Pics were so late this month and I will be doing more soon, I decided just to do some fun stuff. I told Mommy to paint Autumn's nails to match her own and we played around with some girly props and poses.

Red polka-dots and cute baby - doesn't get much better than that as far as I'm concerned!

Autumn's 5-month-old Grammy Pics were pretty fun.

Daddy time

I took Lily and Autumn's monthly Grammy Pics today. They were so long overdue that we'll be doing them again pretty soon. Oh well. Life happens.

I got tons of cute pictures that I have no time to edit today, but I thought I'd share just one. I love this entirely and it just "happened" when we were playing around after picture time. Have fun enjoying the sun today!

Generations

I wanted to share just a couple more shots of little Miss CK. The little dear had a busy weekend. She met her grandparents for the first time, joined the people of God through her baptism Sunday and was the center of much adoring attention at her baby shower Saturday. In the midst of all this, I was able to seize the opportunity to capture a glimpse of the wonderful multi-generational joy and faithfulness celebrated this weekend.

I only had a second to do these and they're by no means perfect, but I still like them. I suppose I like them more because of how wonderful it was to see this baby's extended family and church family joined together in celebrating her little life this weekend. I read a lot of joy and blessing into the pictures which makes them more lovely. Well, that, and I'm pretty sentimental about my own Grandmas, so I tend to like "Grandma's hands" pictures. Whatever the reason, I thought I'd share. :)

Miss European Traveler

Some good friends of our recently returned from a year-long job transplant to Amsterdam. They brought home a pretty cute little souvenir!
I had the privilege of doing a newborn-ish session with their new baby daughter. She was sweet and easy and I had a lot of fun!

I had several new toys to try out since I had done a little birthday-money-photography shopping. I'm very happy with my new reflector, and as terrifying as it was to switch, cold-turkey, to Photoshop Lightroom, I think I'm going to be happy with it. I only had to export 3 photos to do additional editing and when I did a few trial prints they came out much more true to what I was expecting. In the past I've had a lot of trouble with photos printing darker and more saturated than I expected.

I had such a cute subject that I could only narrow down my final edits to 55 pictures! We'll see if my new Lightroom Slideshow tool lets me share them all below...

Enjoy!

About Grammy

My name is Amy and I am a lover of King Jesus, joy-filled wife, mom, auntie and delighted Grammy. I've loved pictures since first getting my hands on a camera around age 6 or 7, however it wasn't until our first granddaughter was born in 2009 that I started seriously pursuing newborn and baby photography. Capturing the fleeting and beautiful moments of early childhood has become a new favorite hobby. My best subjects are the 7 little people I love most, but I occasionally also take pictures for other friends' children. I look forward to learning more about photography as these babies grow. This site is an opportunity for me to share my photos with extended family and friends who might like to see pictures of these cuties. Enjoy!
